Hello Everyone!
My name is Amanda Kelly, I am 17 years old and currently a junior in the International School of Panama (ISP). I'm deeply honored to be serving as the Deputy Secretary General of High School for PANAMUN XXXIV, and I'm thrilled to be working alongside the dedicated PANAMUN secretariat. I was born and raised in Panama City, but my dad is originally from New Zealand. Growing up between these contrasting cultures has given me a strong global perspective.
In 9th grade, I discovered my passion for MUN during PANAMUN XXXII. Standing up to defend Nigeria’s views on drugs and narcotics allowed me to feel like I had found my voice. Educating myself on global issues, and trying to find possible solutions, gave me a sense of power, like I was doing something that mattered. For me, speaking, negotiating, and defending policy helped me comprehend that MUN is not simply debate: it represents a responsibility to protect and understand communities beyond your own. During the conference, delegates will debate real-world issues that demand empathy, and the courage to stand up for people whose voices are too often unheard. I intend to use my role to inspire others to find their voices and embrace the power of diplomacy at PANAMUN XXXIV. Moreover, I aim to foster a collaborative and engaging environment within the conference, so that each delegate can leave PANAMUN with the same confidence and motivation I gained from my first debate. To the delegates, remember that the ideas you shape here are more than words, they are the beginnings of the hope our future depends on.
I am incredibly excited for this year’s PANAMUN, and I look forward to seeing everyone come together to make an amazing conference. It's always inspiring to witness the passion and dedication of the delegates as they grapple with complex global issues. PANAMUN continues to be a valuable platform for fostering the next generation of leaders, and I am eager to see its success again this year!
