Committee info
The United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) was established by the United Nations General Assembly in June 2017 to enhance coordination and coherence across the UN system in preventing and countering terrorism. UNOCT is responsible for providing leadership on the implementation of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, supporting Member States through capacity-building initiatives, and promoting international cooperation. The Office works closely with governments, regional organizations, and other UN entities to strengthen national and global counter-terrorism efforts while ensuring that all actions respect human rights and the rule of law. Its overall objective is to improve the effectiveness of the UN’s counter-terrorism work and help Member States address evolving terrorist threats in a coordinated and sustainable manner.
